russ paid knowledgeworkers to transmit: A "half node" is 1 CPU cores and 512MB of RAM, 12.5 GB disk space... that would just be for the web server, the bulk of the space is in the DB. So my cost on that is $20/mo, but it probably needs more disk than that so I'd say $25-30/mo total. That machine would be dedicated to IHA only, nothing else running on it. The database would live on my DB server node.
Obviously load balancing/etc would take more but I don't know that its a requirement at this point. Their hypervisors support hot-migration for maintenance windows and a hardware failure automatically moves the VM to another hypervisor with a less than 2 minute downtime typically. The automatic backups can also be downloaded as system images so Sycraft and/or myself could automatically keep local copies of the VM image should anything happen.
If Sycraft wants a completely isolated system then $40/mo would get 2 CPU cores, 1GB RAM, and 25 GB disk and it could run SQL Express to keep the DB and webserver all on one IHA-only isolated box.
Obviously this is all more expensive than crappy shared hosting (why I started hosting it on my own server way, way back and the same reason I've moved to Dediserve myself). But the upshot is that it is almost as fast as a real piece of hardware without the hassle or need to replace equipment.
Or we can just continue for free on the "russ bargain closet hosting" plan.
