Yes Windows 8 looks like shit, big deal. It changes nothing. Computing will continue as it has for many reasons:

1) Underneath, it is still a very competent Windows OS, it just has a stupid UI. Well not only can you put up with a stupid UI but there will be companies delighted to fix it for you. Stardock is going to be all kinds of happy to provide utilities to unsuck Windows 8. It may look like tablet shit but it works like a normal Windows OS on PCs. Yes, really, including the server version (we've used it at work). It stores shit on the drive, it runs Win32 and Win64 apps, etc.

2) MS's tablet is going nowhere but the toilet. As I've said many times, almost all people buy tablets because they are shiny toys, or status symbols. Precious few buy them to do anything with. Well Apple owns that shiny/status market, MS isn't breaking in. So this tablet revolution they think will happen? Ya not happening. This is not going to become The One True Way(tm) for computers. Hell even if it takes off, desktops and laptops are going nowhere. No new computer paradigm has killed the old ones. We have more mainframes now than when it was all we had, we just have even more of other computers.

3) Windows 7 is going nowhere. It will be supported until at least 2020. Also, on account of the fact that people are going to fucking hat 8, it will just become another XP. Software will keep supporting 7 and OEMs will keep shipping it because people will demand it. MS will fuck only themselves and us tech support people. They cannot force people on to 8, no matter how much they'd like to.


It is a non-issue. Also if you are mad about moves to a locked down system, I find it funny you'd be sniffing around at Mac. Mountain Lion took another step down that road, and Apple in general is much farther along in that direction.

Regardless, you need to have a glass of perspective and soda. Windows 8 sucks, big deal, we'll live, it changes nothing.
