It should automatically default to wifi when detecting any of the wifi spots you've been to and accessed (secure or not)
If it's not go to your settings (I think you swipe down to reveal the settings, go into your wifi and make sure you select "wifi as default".
If you mean turning on WIFI in the sense that you turn it off to save battery it'd be further drained by a GPS signal tracking your movements to switch on or off a WIFI function just when you're near your home... it wouldn't make sense.
