I think we can all pretty much agree that the HMOs are a bunch of greedy, evil shitbags, but how do we fix the system instead of breaking it even more?

The government currently fails at protecting us from the abuses of the HMOs, so how are they going to succeed at protecting us from federal/state "HMOs" that replace them? Look at the VA system and Medicare and see if this is what you'd like to inflict upon the rest of the population.
