.... I believe you were predicting that in ten years Iraq would have a democratic government and things would be fine. Well that was about five years ago and even the Fred Thompson fans know it ain't going to happen.
I don't know what I would have done but it seems clear that we have been outflanked on all fronts in the Middle East.
That's assuming that stability was an objective to begin with.
In Iran I have yet to hear much debate over which is a wiser course. Engagement with a country that has a very young western oriented population or hardline due to the nuclear issue. Myself, I think prosperous middle class states are much more stable and always present less threat but you have been so succesful with a militarist policy that I wouldn't want to nay say it.
It's like the school voucher issue. You want to bust unions and bust government. You don't much care about the question of whether it leads to better education. Likewise foreign policy. You want militarism for it's own sake.
